Heat Treatment

SMI is able to maintain greater control over heat treatment processes. The facility comprises of batch furnaces both gas fired and electrically heated as well as continuous electrical heating furnaces. We know critical temperature ranges for phase transformation and thus we can best perform annealing, normalizing, hardening, tempering (primary as well as secondary) etc. Our engineers are well aware of the metallurgical parameters in conducting carburizing, nitriding, carbonitriding etc. We can best control the properties of product by heating and cooling as defined by the treatment.

Heat Treatment Processes

Heat treatment processes like carburizing, normalizing, hardening & tempering, and tufftriding (nitrocarburizing) are used to enhance metal properties such as hardness, wear resistance, and toughness. Carburizing adds carbon to the surface for increased hardness, while normalizing refines grain structure and reduces internal stresses. Hardening & tempering optimizes hardness and toughness, and tufftriding creates a wear-resistant surface layer. These processes are crucial for improving metal performance in various industries.

Heat Treatment for Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals

Heat treatment is crucial for enhancing the properties of both ferrous and nonferrous metals. Ferrous metals like steel benefit from treatments such as carburizing and normalizing to improve hardness and strength, while nonferrous metals like aluminum and copper can undergo annealing and precipitation hardening. Surface treatments like phosphating, blackening, and plating methods such as copper, electroless nickel, hard chrome, and zinc (including silver and gold plating) are used to provide corrosion resistance and improve appearance. These processes play a vital role in extending the lifespan and performance of metal components in industries like automotive, aerospace, and electronics.
